The Chamber's Business of the Year Awards program celebrates the achievements of our member businesses and honors their contributions to Pittsburg’s economic growth, as well as key categories that make up the fiber of our great Pittsburg.

Big Business of the Year (26+ Employees)
- Must be an active member of the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce.
- Must be active in the community and in the Chamber.
- Demonstrates ethical leadership and respected corporate stewardship
- Substantiated history as an established business including, but not limited to: number of years in business, local job creation, sustained expansion, growth in square footage, and/or growth in net worth.
Small Business of the Year (1-25 Employees)
- Must be an active member of the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce.
- Must be active in the community and in the Chamber
- Must have 25 employees or under
- Demonstrates excellence in business practices, customer service, and community involvement.
- Organization makes a significant impact that improves the economic, medical, educational or financial health of individuals in our community; impacts people through enabling and empowering individuals to improve their knowledge and skills toward greater quality of life; benefits the underserved, underrepresented or disaffected members of the community, including children, seniors and those in poverty; and has high quality treatment of employees and members of the public.
- Recognized leadership with a reputation for excellence within the nonprofit communities, as well as with the public at large
- High ethical standards and compliance with generally accepted standards for management and public disclosure
Eco-Business of the Year
- Organizations that a conscious efforts toward being a green business, meaning businesses that have practices in at least one area of: environmental protections, engage in resource recovery efforts, exercise pollution prevention, and have a culture/practice of recycling and reuse.
- Demonstrates excellence in business practices, customer service, and community involvement.
- High ethical standards and compliance with generally accepted standards for management and public disclosure.
INDIVIDUALS CATEGORIES:
Business Person of the Year
- Applicant must be do business in the City of Pittsburg
- Applicant must show community involvement and a strong sense of civic pride
- Applicant must have been in business for at least one year in Pittsburg
- Applicant consistently demonstrated excellence in professional and community leadership; Made, or is making,
significant contributions to the welfare of the community through involvement and participation; and given freely
of their time and energy for community betterment, contributing to positive economic growth and stability for the area.
- Be a full-time, certified, in good standing, Pre K-12 teacher in a state-accredited public school at each stage of the recognition process (local, regional, grand division, state and national levels)
- Spend the majority of the school day in direct instruction to students
- Be in at least the fifth year of teaching in Pittsburg public schools
- Have a track record of exceptional gains in student learning
- Have a broad understanding of research-based models for effective teaching and of current trends and issues in education
- Be able to explain, discuss and defend a personal philosophy of teaching
- Be recognized as leaders in the community as well as in the school
- Inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn
- Have the respect and admiration of students, parents and colleagues
Veteran of the Year
- Veteran must have made a significant difference in their communities by promoting a sense of duty, volunteerism and an appreciation of country, democracy, and freedom.
- Veteran must have been honorably discharged from active duty or retired from any United States of America branch of military service. Nominees for this award may still be active in Reserve or National Guard units.
- Veteran must possess a DD214 and include a copy with their application.
- Nominees must be living in the City of Pittsburg at the time of their nomination.
First Responder of the Year
- First Responder must have made a significant difference in their communities by promoting a sense of duty, sense of community, and an appreciation of country, democracy, and freedom.
- Nominees must be living in the City of Pittsburg at the time of their nomination
MAKING A NOMINATION: NOMINATIONS ARE CLOSED for 2018! Event was held March 1, 2019 at Elk's Lodge in Pittsburg.
Anyone can submit a nomination. A committee of respected business owners, community leaders and knowledgeable volunteers will vote. Final selections for the 2019 Honorees will be voted on by the Executive Committee of the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce. The luncheon will feature delicious food and include an onstage, award presentations for the Business of the Year winners, outstanding leaders in our community, and a recognition presentation of our past and dedicated Chamber Board of Directors.
The winners (plus one guest) will be invited to the Installation & Awards Luncheon where they will be recognized and honored for their contributions to the community.

The Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce generally opens nominations at the beginning of the year and accepts nominations by end of January.
Guidelines for nominating are as follows:

- Anyone may submit a nomination.
- Business or non-profit must be a member in good standing of Pittsburg Chamber.
- A committee of respected business owners, community leaders, and knowledgeable volunteers will be the judges.
- Criteria for selection will be involvement, participation, or contributions to the community, community organizations, or the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce.
- Same business cannot win two years in a row.
