What is the Business Walk Program?

To facilitate business retention and expansion, the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce and the City of Pittsburg's Economic Development Department are conducting a "Business Walk" program in our business regions. The purpose of the business walks is to ensure individual business owners and managers have the opportunity to meet with the business and civic leadership who have the ability to act on their behalf and to help foster a prosperous business climate in the City of Pittsburg. The “walk” can also be a celebration of local businesses. The Chamber then uses the responses to survey to generate a simple, easy-to-read report that decision makers can use to help strengthen their local businesses.

How does a Business Walk work?

Business Walks involve a partnership by the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce and the City of Pittsburg's Economic Development Department canvassing local business corridors. The team will conduct a brief interview and include three simple questions:
  1. How is business?
  2. What do you like about doing business here?
  3. What could be done to improve business in the area?

Why do a Business Walk?

  • To understand the issues facing the local business community
  • To build working relationships between decision makers and local businesses
  • To celebrate and promote local businesses
  • To provide businesses with educational resources and other resources

Objective:

To identify successes and obstacles the Pittsburg business community faces within the East County Region and track that information over time.

Outputs:

  • Enables the Chamber and City of Pittsburg's Economic Development to take the business pulse of the business community and communicate successes & obstacles in doing business in the region
  • Allows for the Chambers of Commerce to identify value proposition for existing or new membership; increasing stakeholder support
  • Allows the the ability to track the business pulse over time to gauge business climate, thus impacting program development & business climate messaging
  • Catalyst of establishing contact with individual business to identify companies who require follow up 1:1 assistance. e.g. Identification of second stage growth companies who require assistance for growth, risk of downsizing etc.

Looking forward to the future with you!
